When money is tight, decorating your space usually takes a back seat to things like… eating and ensuring a roof over your head. We understand. We believe that you can create an artful and interesting space with a little money, and a lot of creativity! I made these 2 canvas paintings using acrylic paint and things I found around the house. I love to paint, so I already had everything I needed, but you can pick up small canvases like these for about $4.00 a piece at your local craft store. I also used the cheapest acrylic paint I could find. The grand total of this project should cost you under $10.00!
Tip: Test out different objects on paper before applying them to your canvas. Get used to the amount of pressure you need to apply. Great ideas are things like round lids, spools, spaghetti, hair brushes or combs.
I used a spool, and a handful of spaghetti to make 2 pieces, one with straight, sporadic lines, and one with random circular patterns. They are both similar in that they have random patterns, but they also have contrast in the shapes they take. So if you are creating 2 like mine, keep contrast and similarity in mind. Don’t try to make it perfect, just have fun!
Step 1: Find household items. I started with a lot of things I didn’t end up using- that’s why I suggest testing them out on paper first so you know what you’re getting yourself into.
2. Once you decide which objects to use on your canvas, apply some paint, and start applying to the canvas!
3. Hang and enjoy! My bathroom colors are purple white and brown, so I did mine in brown and hung them up. It’s amazing how a little bit of art can transform your experience in a room, even if you are just brushing your teeth!

[...] for everyday objects, add some paint or ink and Volia’, a unique and interesting new stamp! See how Margo from Craft Pond used spaghetti and a spool for some cool modern art [...]
Love the idea to use objects to stamp with..I love the spaghetti! I will give it a try! I love to use the root end of the bunch of celery to stamp with and it looks like the old tme cabbage roses. I use the celery for pots of soup and then craft..The kids love it too.
Yes! Celery works great- lemons are also great stamps if you let them dry out a few hours!
